A New Energy Perspective

WITH SOARING PRICES, DWINDLING FUEL SUPPLIES AND INCREASING CO2 EMISSIONS, ENERGY IS QUICKLY BECOMING ONE OF THE MOST BURNING TOPICS IN THE UK. FOR BUSINESSES, THE QUESTION OF MEETING ENERGY DEMAND WITH SUPPLY NEEDS IN AN AFFORDABLE AND SUSTAINABLE MANNER IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE URGENT. PREDICTED TO SAVE BUSINESSES £33 BILLION BY 2030, ONSITE ENERGY PRODUCTION MIGHT JUST BE THE ANSWER MANY ARE LOOKING FOR.

In 2015, £15.2 billion was invested in renewable energy – overtaking the £11 billion invested in North Sea oil in the same year, despite record low oil prices. This trend isn’t limited to the UK, however. In the last decade, investors have spent $2 trillion on renewable energy globally. A worldwide drive towards cleaner, more sustainable energy is underway, and both industry leaders and SMEs are embracing the commercial and competitive advantages. At VG Consulting, we believe on-site energy production will play a significant role in this revolution, and we’re excited to offer support and expertise as companies make this transition.

The energy crisis is multi-faceted – with individuals, organisations and governments alike facing multiple challenges. These can be defined under the ‘Energy Trilemma’. Coined by the World Energy Council (WEC), this ‘trilemma’ covers three dimensions;

ENERGY SECURITY – the reliability and effectiveness of energy providers to meet demands.

ENERGY EQUITY – accessibility and affordability of energy supplies for all.

SUSTAINABILITY - how much impact energy production has on the environment.

For a country to be energy-secure, each dimension needs to be addressed. In the UK, however, all three are proving to be a serious issue. From now to 2021, electricity prices are estimated to more than double from £40 per MW/h of energy to £82 per MW/h. From now to 2021, electricity prices are estimated to more than double from £40 per MW/h of energy to £82 per MW/h. Added to that, the UK released 1.2% of global Co2 emissions of 35 billion tons – a far cry from the goal of carbon neutrality. With coal-fired plants shutting down, supply-demand margins will also be at their lowest for over a decade, leading experts to worry about the grid’s ability to meet demand. The country’s small and medium-sized businesses will feel the brunt of the UK’s energy crisis, particularly when it comes to cost and availability.

SOLVING THE ENERGY TRILEMMA - SAFEGUARDING YOUR BUSINESS.

Becoming energy-independent isn’t simply a smart idea. As energy prices continue to rise, it’ll be important to the very survival of businesses, particularly those in energy-intensive industries. Generating energy on-site means businesses will both become independent from market volatility and drastically reduce energy expenses in the process.

Using eco-friendly energy sources also makes a company more attractive – to investors, partners and customers alike. As renewable technology becomes more popular each year (and consequently cheaper) – it makes more and more sense for businesses to strike their own path.

Making such a drastic change might be an intimidating prospect. It’s true – achieving energy independence isn’t simple. Attaining planning permission and jumping through regulatory hoops can be complex and challenging. Added to that, the options out there are numerous. Do you install solar panels? Are wind turbines the answer to match your energy needs? Can biomass boilers or geothermal power systems deliver the energy and heat options your business demands?

VG Consulting understand the energy challenges of your business. As experts in the field, we also have the answers to help you address these concerns, for both the present and future. VG Consulting partner with you to make the right choices that fit your location, industry, business size, budget, and objectives – ensuring you’re effective and resilient to the upcoming changes in the world of energy.
